Bir uçak bir kanadı olmadan uçabilir mi? Hayır cevaplarınızı duyar gibiyim. İşte bu yazımda bu olay başına gelmiş bir uçağın ve imkansızı başaran pilotların hikayesini okuyacaksınız.

Öncelikle olayın baş kahramanı olan F-15 Eagle uçağından biraz bahsedelim. Bu uçak ilk olarak 1976 yılında hizmete girmiş bir safkan hava üstünlük avcısıdır. Başta ABD Hava Kuvvetleri olmak üzere pek çok ülkenin hava vurucu gücünün bel kemiğini oluşturmaktadır. Çift jet motoru sayesinde bir roket gibi ivmelenebilen bu uçak birazdan anlatacağım olayda pilotların hayatını kurtaracaktı.

Gelelim olayımıza;

1 Mayıs 1983 tarihinde, İsrail Hava Kuvvetleri’ne bağlı 116.Filo’dan 374 tescil numaralı bir Douglas A-4 Skyhawk ve 106.Filo’dan 957 tescil numaralı bir McDonnell Douglas F-15D Eagle uçağı Negev Çölü üzerinde bir eğitim uçuşu yapmak üzere havalandılar. Uçaklar rutin bir şekilde eğitim uçuşlarını gerçekleştirirken bir şeyler ters gitti ve iki uçak havada çarpıştı. A-4’ün pilotu uçağından fırlatma koltuğu ile ayrıldı ve bir süre sonra uçağı yere çakıldı.

Uçağın kanadının koptuğundan habersiz pilotlar, öncelikle spine düşen uçağı toparladılar. Hasarlı F-15 derhal Ramon Hava Üssü’ne yönlendirildi.

Pilotlar düşük hızda havada tutunamadıklarını fark etmişlerdi. Havada tutunabilmek adına normalden daha hızlı uçmak, normalden daha hızlı yaklaşmak ve inmek zorundaydılar. Burada ise imdatlarına F-15’in oldukça yüksek güç üreten iki adet Pratt&Whitney F-100 turbofan motoru yetişmişti.

Uçak motorlarının muazzam itiş gücü sayesinde sağ kanadı olmamasına rağmen uçabiliyordu. Uçuşun en zor aşaması tahmin edebileceğiniz üzere inişti. Olağanın çok üzerinde bir hızla yaklaşan pilotlar pistten çıkarak güçlükle de olsa uçağı durdurabilmeyi başardı.

İniş sonrası pilotların yaptığı konuşma ise insanın davranış doğasının bir aynası niteliğindeydi : “Eğer ki kanadımızın koptuğunu bilseydik, böylesine imkansız bir şey için mücadele etmez, hemen uçağı terk ederdik”

First of all, let’s talk about the F-15 Eagle which is the main protagonist. This aircraft was first launched in 1976 and is a thoroughbred air superiority fighter. It is the backbone of the air force of many countries, especially the US Air Force. Thanks to the double jet engine, this airplane, which can accelerate like a rocket, will save the pilots’ lives in the event.

Something was wrong while the planes were routinely carrying out their training flights, and two planes collided in the air. The pilot of the A-4 was removed from the plane by the ejection seat and after a while the plane crashed.

Unaware that the plane’s wing was broken, the pilots gathered the plane, which was primarily spins. Damaged F-15 was immediately redirected to Ramon Air Base.

The pilots noticed that they could not hold in the air at low speed. They had to fly faster than usual, to approach and descend faster than usual in order to keep in the air. Here, two Pratt & Whitney F-100 turbofan engines, which produced quite high power for the F-15, were brought to their aid.

Thanks to the enormous thrust of the aircraft engines, he could fly even though he had no right wing. The most difficult phase of the flight was landing as you can imagine. Pilots who approaching the speed over the usual speed, overruned the runway but they succeeded to stop.

The interviews of the pilots after the landing were a mirror of the nature of man’s behavior: “If we knew that our wing had broken, we would not fight for such an impossible thing, we would leave the plane immediately.”
